CSB Scripture Notebooks
A clean and simple Bible journaling option that works really well.
When Crossway announced their ESV Scripture Journals back in 2018, I thought to myself, “This is going to do well.” Sure enough, that idea took off, and now we have lots of options in several translations from various Bible publishers.
Holman Bibles, publisher of the Christian Standard Bible, recently released the CSB Scripture Notebooks, and I’m happy to report that they are really great. I love that this set is simple and clean. They look great, they’re made well, and they get the job done.

CSB Scripture Notebooks – Overview
The CSB Scripture Notebooks are available as individual volumes, but you can also get the entire Old Testament or New Testament in one set. Each one comes bound in a medium blue cover that has a nice texture to it, and coppery gold lettering to accent the cover and spine. The overall size of each notebook is 5.75” x 8” (with varying thicknesses based on the length of the biblical book), and each one has a Smyth-sewn binding that allows it to lay flat.
Inside, you’ll find the text of the CSB in a 12pt font called “Bible Serif” (one of my favorite typeface designs from 2K/Denmark) on thick, creme colored paper that reminds be of the paper you’d find in a novel. The text of the Bible is on the left page of each spread in a single-column format, and the right page has 33 lines of for taking notes. Whether you’re studying on your own or in a group, you’ve got ample space to take notes as you engage with the text.

Simple & Clean
I like the simplicity of the CSB Scripture Notebooks. It feels like the designers intentionally tried to keep the main thing the main thing, so you get the text of scripture in a clean format on one page, with the lined notebook paper on the opposite page to write down your thoughts. The materials are high quality, and the aesthetics of the paper and cover are quite nice.
