Life Application Study Bible
A closer look at the latest update to this popular study Bible.
The Life Application Study Bible has been one of the best selling Bibles in the world for over thirty years, and in 2019 it was completely overhauled with edits, updates, and new material. This new “Third Edition” initially appeared in Tyndale’s flagship NLT edition of the Life Application Study Bible, but now they’ve released an updated NIV edition, and later this year the update will arrive in a KJV option.
The Life Application Study Bible is an award-winning and best-selling Bible for good reason: it helps people apply the Bible to their lives. I’m quite impressed with the overall look and feel of the copies I have for review, and I think the study material is quite good.

Life Application Study Bible (Third Edition) – Overview
This most recent update to the Life Application Study Bible is currently available in the NLT and NIV, with a KJV edition scheduled to be released in late 2021. It features a new layout that has been completely edited and updated with a significant amount of new study material. The standard edition that you see in this review measures 6.5” x 9.25”, and it is 2” thick. It has an 8.5pt type size for the main text of the Bible, but Tyndale also offers a large print edition (10.75pt type) as well as a personal size edition (7.3pt type).
Inside, the Life Application Study Bible is full of features designed to help readers apply God’s word to their daily lives. Each edition includes more than 10,000 life application notes, over 100 character profiles, and an assortment of charts, illustrations, and maps (there is also a helpful index in the back of the Bible that catalogs all of this study material). Each book of the Bible begins with a detailed book introduction, and the Bible also includes cross-references, textual footnotes, and a combination Dictionary/Concordance.
Overall, it’s a very attractive and well designed Bible that is easy to use.

Application Focused
In my video review of the Life Application Bible, I show you how the study notes work in this Bible. They include traditional notes like most study Bibles that give readers details about the historical and literary context of the biblical text, but they also have notes about how the text applies to our lives (you can see examples of both of these types of notes in the photo below from the Gospel of Matthew). This feature is what makes the Life Application Study Bible unique, because it is designed specifically for application. Where other study Bibles offer insight about the text, the Life Application Study Bible goes one step further and asks readers to consider how it applies to the rhythm of their daily lives.
I think this focus on application makes this a great Bible for anyone who wants to take the message of the Bible seriously, but I particularly think it’s great for young people, seekers, and new believers.
