NKJV Large Print Wide Margin Reference Bible

The much-anticipated new NKJV Wide Margin from Thomas Nelson is here, and it’s great!

I’ve seen a lot of chatter online about the Bible that I’m reviewing today, and as you may have seen from my unboxing video, this is a Bible that makes quite a first impression. After a few more days of closer examination, I’m happy to report that this is Bible is well designed and filled with great features.

The edition I am reviewing is from the Premier Collection, a premium line of Bibles from Thomas Nelson and Zondervan that continues to impress me at every turn, but it’s also available in a Leathersoft edition.

Watch the video below to see a full walkthrough of this Bible, and keep scrolling for a written review and more photos.

NKJV Large Print Wide Margin Reference Bible – Overview

The NKJV Large Print Wide Margin Reference Bible (release date: April 20, 2021) is a big, bold Bible that has a 7.5” x 9.25” trim size and is just a hair under 1.75” thick. Like all Bibles from the Premier Collection, it is edge-lined and Smyth-sewn, and it features raised spine hubs, perimeter stitching, and three double-sided satin ribbon markers (two black, one red).

Inside you’ll find a generous 10.5pt NKJV Comfort Print typeface, line-matched on 36 GSM paper, in a verse-by-verse format with wide margins. Red accents are used tastefully on the page, and the words of Christ appear in red in the New Testament.

This edition comes equipped with over 72,000 cross-references as well as the complete set of NKJV translator notes, both of which can be found across the bottom of each page. At the back of the Bible you’ll find a concordance, a one-year reading plan, and a set of full-color Bible maps.

I almost forgot… this thing has book introductions, too!

Suffice it to say, this is a true reference Bible that is ready for your most rigorous study times.

Super Premium?

The Premier Collection is a line of premium Bibles from Thomas Nelson and Zondervan (both part of HarperCollins Christian Publishing) that debuted in 2018. These Bibles feature high-quality materials, excellent craftsmanship, and custom typefaces designed by 2K/DENMARK.

One of the questions I get asked quite often is how these Bibles from the Premier Collection compare with the “super premiums” (a phrase I first heard in a comment from one of my subscribers on YouTube in reference to Bibles from Schuyler, R.L. Allan, and Cambridge). Of course, this is a subjective question, and answers may vary from person to person based on specific preferences, but I tend to give Schuyler, Allan, and Cambridge the edge simply because the majority of their Bibles are produced by Royal Jongbloed in the Netherlands with the highest grade materials available. That said, Thomas Nelson and Zondervan have been getting consistently good results from their manufacturers in China (unlike some of the well-documented issues that Crossway had when they moved production of their premium Bibles from Royal Jongbloed to China last year, a decision that irked many ESV fans and has now led Crossway to return their premium Bible manufacturing back to the Netherlands).

If anything, the Premier Collection is only a step behind the Big 3, and it significantly evens the playing field by offering its Bibles at excellent prices (links below for purchasing). All that to say, I think the Premier Collection is certainly holding its own, and with each new release, Thomas Nelson and Zondervan continue to raise the bar.
