Schuyler ESV Quentel in Marbled Mahogany Calfskin
See why the ESV Quentel is one of Schuyler’s most popular Bibles.
Earlier this year I embarked on a quest to find the perfect ESV premium small Bible, and I had so much fun reviewing and comparing Bibles from various publishers that I quickly started thinking about what I could do next. It didn’t take long to realize that the market for ESV premium editions that are LARGE is perhaps one of the most competitive areas in the world of Bible publishing, so for the next few weeks I am going to review several full-size ESV Bibles from Schuyler, Allan, Cambridge, and Crossway.
Let’s start by taking a closer look at the ESV Quentel from Schuyler Bibles, the impressive big brother of one of my favorite finds from the first search, the Personal Size Quentel.
Schuyler ESV Quentel – Overview
The Quentel (named after William Tyndale’s first printer) is the flagship Bible design from Schuyler that comes in several translations (NASB, NKJV, NIV, and ESV). Designed in partnership with typesetter 2K/Denmark, each Quentel features a robust, two-column design with a generous 11pt type size and cross-references spanning the entire bottom of the page (this is one of the more unique features of the Quentel layout, which gives the biblical text plenty of room to breath while allowing the cross-references to be there when you need them yet out of the way when you don’t). Printed and bound by Royal Jongbloed in the Netherlands, this marbled mahogany calfskin ESV Quentel is edge-lined and Smyth-sewn with a 6.125” x 9.125” trim size. Including the cover, it’s just a hair under 1.5” thick. So it’s big, but not too big.

Impressive Calfskin
I’ll admit that I was a little unsure about the Marbled Mahogany Calfskin covers when Schuyler first announced them in late 2019. Their goatskin is fantastic, so why mess with a good thing?
Well… they’re incredible… that’s why.
I was seriously impressed when I first opened the box and looked at this Bible. It has all the soft and supple floppiness that you’d expect from a premium goatskin Bible, but it also has a rugged quality that makes it even more special and unique.
Try not to drool when you scroll through these next few photos.
Schuyler Sensibility
I enjoy introducing Schuyler Bibles to people, because it’s fun to watch their reactions. Every time I hand someone one of my Schuylers, they immediately fall in love. They’re just great Bibles – from the aesthetic touches to readability to construction – everything about them is crafted with the utmost quality.
If you’re looking for a top-of-the-line ESV reference edition that is fully loaded, beautiful, and built to last, the Quentel from Schuyler Bibles needs to be on your short list.
