Should Christians Read the Apocrypha?
I grew up believing that Protestants should avoid the Apocrypha. I assumed these books were added to the Bible by Catholics, filled with questionable teachings, and simply weren't worth reading.
But after studying the history of the Bible, the development of the biblical canon, and writing my book Bible Translations for Everyone, my perspective changed.
I remain a Protestant. I still do not consider the Apocrypha to be part of the biblical canon. But I also believe every Protestant should understand what the Apocrypha is, where it came from, why Catholics and Orthodox Christians include it, and why these books deserve far more respect than many of us were taught to give them.
