NET Abide Bible Journals

A closer look at Thomas Nelson’s journals with elements of the Abide study system.

My first review of 2021 was of the NKJV Bible Journals from Thomas Nelson, and impressive set of journals that were thoughtfully designed and very easy to use. A couple of weeks ago I reviewed the NKJV Abide Bible (also from Thomas Nelson), which not only looks great, but offers readers a new way to meaningfully engage with Scripture.

Needless to say, I’m quite a fan of what Thomas Nelson has been offering lately.

Today I’m reviewing the NET Abide Bible Journals, a set that feels like a hybrid of those previous two reviews. It combines everything I loved about the Bible Journals with the features of the Abide Bible, and it does so with great design and functionality.

Please watch the video below to see my full review of the NET Abide Bible Journals, and keep scrolling for a written overview and more photos.

NET Abide Bible Journals – Overview

The NET Abide Bible Journals are available as individual volumes or in sets. There are three sets for the Old Testament (Law, Prophets, Writings) and two sets for the New Testament (Gospels & Acts, Epistles & Revelation). You can also buy a complete set of the entire Bible. Each volume is a deep blue color with gold accents, including a unique cover design for each volume designed by artist Stephen Crotts. It’s a lovely set that will look great on your bookshelf.

In addition to the standard Bible journal layout (text of scripture on the left page in a massive 12pt font, journaling lines for taking notes on the right page), the Abide Bible Journals also include four different types of engagement prompts from the Abide Bible:

• Praying Scripture: pattern your prayers after biblical texts
• Picture It: place yourself in a biblical narrative as a bystander or participant
• Journal: focus and reflect on Scripture and its meaning for your life
• Contemplate: follow a 4-step practice of contemplating God’s Word

FEATURES
• 12pt type size
• 5.75” x 8.25” trim size
• Flexible sewn binding
• Thick paper suited for journaling
• NET Comfort Print® typeface
• Brief book introductions
• Scripture engagement prompts
• Cover and spine artwork by Stephen Crotts

Something More

I really liked the NKJV Bible Journals because the text looked great on the page, the paper was nice and thick, and the overall design was very clean and modern. The NET Abide Bible Journals have all of those same features, plus they have the beautiful gold designs on the covers and the Abide engagement prompts. For me, this makes these ones even more impressive. I love the color of the set and the cover designs a lot, and the Abide prompts are a great way to kick-start the journaling process.

Thomas Nelson also offers the full Abide Bible in an NET edition. I image that pairing the NET Abide Bible with these NET Abide Bible Journals would create an awesome setup for daily Bible study that encourages readers to engage meaningfully with the text and take some time to journal as they reflect.

Bottom Line:
Whether you’re just looking for Bible journals that are designed well and easy to use, or you’d like a little extra help in getting started with journaling, the NET Abide Bible Journals from Thomas Nelson are a fantastic set to consider.
