Allan NASB Reader
This might just be my favorite Bible from R.L. Allan.
I’m on the record as being a big fan of Bibles from R.L. Allan, and people often ask me what my favorite one is. I usually go with the NRSV1 that I took with me to Oxford. It’s a great Bible, and the nostalgia of having it with me during that season (particularly when studying Philippians with N.T. Wright) makes it quite special. But if I’m being honest, every time I tell someone that the NRSV1 is my favorite Allan, there’s a little voice inside my head that yells, “Hey! What about the Petrol Blue?!”
From the first moment that I saw a photo of Allan’s NASB R1 in Petrol Blue goatskin, I was smitten. So much so that I was genuinely anxious when I opened the box for the first time, because my expectations were so incredibly high.
But the truth is that this Bible exceeded my expectations and then some, and if it wasn’t for the legendary status of the KJV Longprimer, I would quickly say that the NASB Reader is Allan’s flagship Bible. It represents the best of what they can do as publisher, and I’ve yet to meet someone who doesn’t love it.
